Branch Purpose & OrganisationThe Information Technology and Computing industry continues to provide rapid innovation and change. As professionals we are forced to consider and apply new approaches, perhaps more frequently than in any other area. Increasingly we have to equip ourselves for this continuing change by maintaining and enhancing our expertise.
The Society through its Continuing Professional Development (CPD) scheme provides a formal framework for structuring this personal development in support of professional and technical skill improvement throughout a practitioner's working life.
The programme of events organised by the Branch Committee aims to contribute to such personal development by providing an opportunity for members to discuss some of the current trends and developments with guest speakers and fellow branch members. This interaction is valuable in extending our awareness of the 'hot topics' and their application within the industry.
The meeting year usually consists of 6-8 meetings commencing in October through to May the following year. The branch AGM is normally held in conjunction with the May meeting. We normally meet in the Queens building at De Montfort University from 6.30pm with a buffet and the talk or demonstration starts at 7.00pm. The committee try to arrange a varied programme including where possible visits of professional interest or meetings at alternative venues. Sometimes meetings are arranged in conjunction with other professional groups.
